Elegant and understated - The Links Hotel, Skegness |
|

| Right
from walking through the door of the Links Hotel, Drummond Road, Skegness,
I was made to feel welcome by the new owners Andrew and Jean Fairburn.
I was really impressed with the refurbished dining room which is now called Isabel's after Jean's mother. It is elegant and understated, painted in neutral tones with exposed wooden beams. The
room is large enough for a party or big function, for which the hotel
does cater, but also manages to feel intimate for a meal for two or
just the family. I couldn't get over the menu - it was so impressive! There was a tantalising selection of starters, main course and desserts, as well as a sorbet course and coffee and petit fours to finish! It took me ages to decide what to have because I wanted nearly everything, it all sounded so delicious. It was a good job there was also a great selection of wines to choose from because my boyfriend needed something to keep him occupied while I deliberated over my meal choices! I finally chose grilled king prawn skewers with a chili and lime dressing, followed by rack of lamb with baked cherry tomatoes and redcurrant jus. When
the food arrived it was beautifully presented and tasted incredible. As for dessert, I went for the most sinful choice, of course - the homemade banoffee pie! And I certainly wasn't disappointed.

Isabel's Restaurant offers a fantastic range of mouth-watering meals every evening, as well as a Sunday carvery. |

The
hotel also offers a fantastic Sunday carvery (I was so impressed with
our evening meal I returned with my family to try out the carvery!) After speaking to Andrew I wasn't surprised to discover he has two top chefs with years of experience. Apparently the menu is different every evening so I can't wait to get back and try out some of their other gorgeous dishes. He also told me they only used fresh local produce and cooked all food to order.

After our meal, we went into the bar which is really warm. The customers were almost all local to the area and there was a really friendly and welcoming atmosphere. We ended up chatting to lots of people, and I even lost my boyfriend for nearly an hour as he took part in a few pool games with some of the regulars. The bar hasn't been refurbished yet but Jean told me about their plans to revamp the entire place, including the 16 guest bedrooms. It sounds like it will be better than ever. They have some really good ideas about how the business will develop. Andrew has had 28 years in the trade and his expertise is obvious. The
Links is in a really good location. It's in a pretty residential area
in one of the nicest parts of Skegness, but is within walking distance
of the town centre. There is also plenty of parking so you can drive there and not worry about not being able to park. The dining room is open from noon-9pm from Monday to Saturday, and the Sunday carvery is available from noon-4pm. It
is advisable to book for Thursday-Saturday evening meals and for Sunday
lunch. |
